Bolton Dementia Support

Memory Cafés offer a friendly, relaxed and welcoming setting where people living with dementia, their families and carers can drop in to access information, support and activities.

Memory Cafés offer the opportunity for people living with dementia and their families to meet others in a similar situation, find out how and where to get help and share experiences and coping strategies.

Knowing that others really understand makes a difference, and this can grow into a support network that exists outside the café. Each café provides a setting where people living with dementia feel welcomed and valued.

Bolton Dementia Support is pleased to announce the opening of a third Memory Café to complement their existing services in Bolton for people living with dementia and those who care for them.

We now have the following Memory Cafés:

Monday 2pm - 4pm at The Victoria Hall, BL1 2AS (in Bolton town centre).

Tuesday 2pm - 4pm at Horwich RMI Club, Chorley New Road BL6 5NH (on the main bus route between Bolton and Horwich)

Wednesday 2pm - 4pm at Bar Lane Bowling Club, Ivy Bank Road (off Bar Lane)
We also hold a carers support group every Tuesday morning at Thicketford Centre (Thicketford Road, Bolton, BL2 2LW) from 10:30am-12pm. Carers and the people they care for are all welcome as the person being cared for has a parallel activity session whilst the carer gets involved in the carers support session. The support groups allow carers to gain information and advice based on dementia care and also provides them with an opportunity to meet other carers and share experiences and coping strategies. The parallel activity session for the person living with dementia usually involves the use of reminiscence boxes or other activities designed to meet the specific needs of people with dementia.

New Memory Café -

We are pleased to announce that Bolton Council are funding us to expand our service to the remaining areas of the borough and therefore, starting on 30th January 2014 we will be introducing an evening Memory Café on the last Thursday of each month from 7pm until 9pm at St Gregory's Social Club (where Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights was filmed!). The evening Memory Cafe's will allow carers who are working to access our service together with any one else who is being affected by dementia.
The new Memory Café will be similar to our existing Memory Cafe's whereby you will be provided with entertainment from singers, musicians and pub quiz's as well as gaining information and support from our staff and volunteers. All of our Memory Cafes provide a relaxed atmosphere for people affected by dementia to meet other people in similar situations and to gain useful information, advice and support from staff, volunteers and other members of the group with similar experiences.
